True Ghost Story
Ebenezer House
Story Compiled by Lynn Brobst of EPGR.

When Tom, Mike, Jess, Bob and I were all young we would hear stories from our parents and grandparents about this house in Lebanon Pennsylvania. They would commonly call it the "Ebenezer House". To this day, even hearing the name of the house gives me the chills. Every time we would hear the stories, we would be so scared, but we always went back for more. I think that was sort of a hint that the ghost hunting thing was a calling for all of us. We always wanted to hear scary stuff, and we weren't happy until we did. So sit back and I will tell you all about this one.

Ebenezer house is a house in Lebanon, just outside of Lebanon actually. It was a nice sized house, average. Perfect for either just starting out or settling down. It had a few weird things about it though. Let me explain. See it had a swamp like thing as a backyard, an old butcher place in the attic, with meat hooks hanging from the ceiling. There was a rumor that said that there used to be satanic rituals performed in the attic. That when you drove past the house it would appear that there were lights on in the attic, and no one would be home. Another strange thing about the house was that in the basement there was a cement floor with a giant hump in the center (picture a huge well like object, cement with a huge cement "lid" on top), no one dared to go into the basement alone, nor did they even want to. So no one actually ever found out what the hump was. The basement was also known to have a "wall of emptiness". Basically.. to one side of the basement it was completely black or dark. The basement continued to go, even in this darkness, but no one ever ventured to find out what was beyond. This space was said to look as if it went on forever.

My aunt and her husband and two kids moved in the house in probably 84 or 85. I know it had to be around there because we were all only babies at the time, but that really doest matter. During the first few days of living in the house they didn't really notice much of anything odd or out of the ordinary, just the usual bumps and grinds of a house. They started to notice something was a little bit odd about a week they were there. My aunt started saying that she would see these weird shadows darting around out of the corner of her eye. And like any normal person she would just blow it off and think there was a perfectly logical explanation for it.

One of the weirdest things that they had noticed about the house was that the attic had giant meat hooks hanging from the ceiling. They didn't think much of it when they moved in to the house, so they just figured it had been an old butcher shop or something of the sort. Little did they know what they were exactly about to find out.

They had a history done on the house and found that the meat hooks in the attic were actually there because the attic was to be where they had performed there sacrifices for the satanic rituals that were performed in the bedroom below. This may also explain why our cousin had gone into the attic and seen a "pig" hanging on one of the meathooks. She also reported of seeing "little people" gathered around the hanging pig. They also talked to a priest that told them they should all douse themselves in holy water before anyone was to enter the house. He also strongly advised them to leave, because he felt such a strong presence while he was there. One more odd thing that my aunt and uncle found odd was that the priest told them that the previous owners were killed in the home, they didn't know how, but that's what they were told. He informed them that sometimes when people conger up the spirits, that sometimes they are too afraid to send them back.

Other weird unexplainable phenomena went on in the house. Like for instance, they had a fireplace in one of the rooms upstairs, where if one person would look at it they would see stone, if another would look they would see brick. It believed to be because the evil in the house wanted everyone to fight. There was an artificial christmas tree kept in storage in the attic or an upstairs closet. When they went to get the tree it was loaded with mosquitos, which is incredibly odd considering it was an artificial tree. Two uncles had gone into the shed outside only to find the skin of a dog in the shed. The skin was fresh and looked like it had been done just recently. This grossed my uncles out and was just another unexplainable occurence.

One of the things that started to actually scare the hell out of the family while they were there. One night my aunt and uncle, after showering were getting ready for bed, and my aunt had been brushing her hair and admiring herself in the mirror. She thought she saw shadows dart across the doorway behind her in the reflection, so she went to look and nothing was there. She looked in the mirror again and saw what she says to be a little creature with a pig nose, pointy ears, sharp teeth and red eyes.

Let me pause for a moment here. The spooky thing about the "pig face" is that its not the first time this is believed to have happened to her. When she and her brothers and sisters were young, very young actually. They used to stay at there grandmothers house a few miles away from Ashland. In this house my aunt would be devastated, and terrified to go up the stairs. She would scream in hysterics about this Easter bunny that was going to get here at the top of the stairs. Finally my grandparents and I guess great grandparents got fed up with this so they asked my aunt... "what did the Easter bunny look like?" My aunt finally confessed that the "Easter bunny" looked a lot like the "pig face" she said it had big pointy ears, long sharp teeth, and red eyes. Needless to say this spooked me out. How about you?

So that whole incident was a breaking point for them, but they stayed, thinking what, I don't know. But halfway through them living there, they had invited my uncles sister to come and see the house. Now keep in mind she was a very religious woman. They were giving her a tour of the house and she finally reached the middle bedroom. Her and my uncle no sooner walked into the room and she fell very ill. She started to say that the room was evil and started to describe what went on inside the room. She explained that there were all these people standing in a circle and a pentagram on the ground. She didn't know the exact term of the pentagram, but she drew it just fine. She warned the couple that something was not right with the house and she advised them to leave immediately, just take the children, and come back later for there belongings.

I'm not really sure how they reacted to this, but they stayed in the house after it. How do I know this you ask? Well because when they were in the "ritual" bedroom. They had a nice little end table that they had just purchased only shortly before moving in. It was wooden, and from what I hear, beautiful. It was placed in the corner of the room. They went to check on it or show it off to my parents, and other relatives, so I believe. And when they went to see it, there was a bloody handprint on the side. I don't know how exactly they knew it was blood, but it was red, and they were scared. They went downstairs and sat on the floor, and just as they started to relax again, the floor started to rumble. Needless to say, they decided to move out after this.

They had finally decided to move out and had called our relatives, aunts, uncles, and parents to come and help them. Everyone who decided to help with the packing was afraid to even enter the house, let alone stay in it for a long period of time. They would have someone stand in the doorway just to make sure they wouldn't get locked inside. They would also always be in groups and stay in groups until the last of the items had been removed.

In the attic, they were gathering a few odds and ends and they all started to go downstairs, and my mom was in the back of the line. She told me that she started to walk down and felt someone grab her by her shirt. Then she told me that she had felt someone begin to actually push her, she hurried down to catch up with the rest of the group. I would imagine this scared her terribly. They also encountered a little problem while they were unpacking in the den. They began to smell this sweet smell, sort of like flowers, or candy. Everyone began to wonder about where it was coming from, what was causing it. Then all of a sudden, the sweet smell became sour, and almost vulgar. They didn't know what caused this but some are saying that it was the good and evil fighting amongst them in the house. Everything was just about ready to be moved out and almost all the belongings were packed. Then my aunt noticed a dark black trench coat hanging from a hook on the wall. She began to ask who it belonged to. No one knew. She figured the coat had just been left there so she asked if anyone would like it. Just then the coat drop to the ground as if it were picked up by someone, or something, and then dropped.

Ebenezer House is a real, but scary place. Rumor has it that no one has ever lasted a month in the house. It still stands today, with the same evil that haunted it many years ago. It will probably stand for a long time to come. Haunting everyone who may enter it. Scaring the hell out of the poor souls who dare set foot in its presence. Its poor devastated spirits trapped inside forever. I'm sure if there are owners in it now, they might not mind too much if you want to go sneak a peak, unless you're scared. So let me ask you this final question in closing. Do you dare?
